The Lost Art of the Apology, Vol 4

September 10th, 2005 · No Comments

Conservative Party blogger Stephen Taylor apologized for mistakenly discrediting a fellow party member who was quoted in a Globe and Mail article critical of changes to the party’s key strategist positions.

Taylor claimed the woman in question is no longer a party member. The information proved to be false, and Taylor was left with some egg on his face.

His profuse apology covered most of the bases, and was gracious. However, responding to a reader comment, he couldn’t resist rising to the argument and calling the reader a hypocrite for posting comments anonymously. This while relying on an anonymous source to sling mud at a frequent critic of party leader Stephen Harper.

You only get one chance to sound completely sincere when you’re making your apology. Why undermine it by getting into a pissing match?
